Signs the Relationship You’re Praying For Might Not Be God’s Will

When Prayer and Confusion Exist at the Same Time

One of the hardest places to be as a Christian woman is loving someone deeply… while quietly wondering:

“Is this really from God?”

You can pray faithfully, believe wholeheartedly, and still feel unsettled in your spirit.

God is not the author of confusion — and often, His guidance shows up not only in Scripture, but in peace, patterns, and emotional fruit.

7 Signs This Relationship Might Not Be God’s Will

  1. You Feel More Anxious Than Peaceful
God’s will often comes with peace, even when it’s hard. Constant anxiety, fear of abandonment, or emotional instability may be a signal to pause.

  2. Your Boundaries Are Regularly Crossed
Love never pressures, manipulates, or disregards your convictions.

If your “no” is not respected, that’s not godly leadership — that’s emotional danger.

  3. You Are Constantly Justifying Their Behavior
If you find yourself explaining away red flags to friends, mentors, or yourself, your spirit may already know something your heart doesn’t want to admit.

  4. Your Relationship Is Pulling You Away From God
Healthy relationships draw you closer to Christ — not farther from prayer, church, or spiritual peace.

  5. Growth Is One-Sided
You’re doing all the emotional work, all the praying, all the waiting… while they remain unchanged.

God’s will rarely requires one person to carry the entire relationship alone..

  6. Wise Counsel Has Expressed Concern
God often speaks through mentors, pastors, and trusted friends. Repeated concern is worth prayerful attention.

  7. You Feel Like You’re Shrinking to Keep the Relationship
If you’re silencing your needs, minimizing your feelings, or abandoning your values to keep peace — that’s not God’s design for love.

What the Bible Says About God’s Will in Relationships

“The Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your soul in drought.” — Isaiah 58:11

God’s will does not:

  • Require you to abandon your peace

  • Ignore your safety

  • Destroy your emotional health

Sometimes the most loving answer God gives… is “not this.”
